Thankful Thirty: Day 5

Today I'm so very thankful for my mom.  She is always willing to help me with my kids, my house, whatever comes up.  I know this one is short, but I just can't list it all.

Thankful Thirty: 1-4

It seems like everyone I know is posting on Facebook each day what they are thankful for.  It seems to me it's more appropriate for me to do so here. However, I didn't come to this realization until today - Day 4.  So, allow me to backtrack...

Day 1
This was Thursday.  In all honesty, I was most thankful that this was actually my Friday with students.  It sounds really petty when I put it in writing, but it's real. And to celebrate Fridays, I start my mornings with Rebecca Black.

Day 2
I am thankful for the love of my life - Tim.  After 20 years together, he is still the one to make me laugh, not allow me to take myself to seriously, and puts me in my place regularly.

Day 3
God has blessed me with the best two kids in the world.  Cooper's art teacher (Abby's former art teacher) stopped me last week to tell me how very different they are. Yes, they are.  They are both perfectly made. My life would be BORING and dull without them.

Day 4
Today is Sunday and even thought my Father God comes first, I am taking today to focus on the gratitude I have for Him allowing His Son to die because I am a screw up.

Spring Break

Well it's almost over and I can't say that I accomplished a whole lot. I did do some reading, but we stayed on the go for most of the week. On Monday we took Yoda to be altered (fixed). By the time we drove to The Woodlands and back twice, the day was pretty much gone. On Tuesday we went to New Caney to watch the Lady Hornets beat New Caney. We went back on Wednesday to play Porter and then on to Humble to watch the girls get their third win in two days. Yesterday we went to the Bush Library and on to Brenham. Blue Bell was full and no tours were available so we just came on home. Today Abby and I had pedicures and just spent the rest of the day at home. Tomorrow is ball, Abby bowling with a friend, and finally a birthday party.

I better find time to do some grading. Not sure when I'll squeeze that in.

I can't believe it's been a year...

Yes, it's been a year, but my friend Kathryn has inspired me to resurrect this blog.  I've recently been blogging some things related to school, but have decided to try to share family stuff here.

Spring Break finds me acting as Abby's social secretary.  It seems all I have in my calendar are Abby's school meetings, private lessons, practices, games, and plans with her friends.  That's not true.  The other things on my calendar are places Tim has to be.  That's just so I know when not to expect him.

Anyway, I'm blogging some school stuff at educationalhorizons.blogspot.com and more spiritual insights and questions at gloryboundgirls.blogspot.com.  Share as you see fit.  I definitely want to get the school blog out there so that I can get some comments and suggestions for where to go with my class.

I'll do my best to keep this site current, but as it's the third one I'm working on...

New Years Resolution? New Year's Hobby?

So I started this venture called couponing around the first of the year. I am proud to say that I have only been to Walmart ONCE since Christmas. I'm am confining my shopping to Kroger, CVS, Walgreens, and an occasional Target. This, in itself, has dramatically reduced my weekly spending. I had a friend tell me it was just too much trouble to go to more than one place and Kroger just didn't carry the brands of things she liked. Oh well. My family is having to adapt.

I am relying heavily on MyLitter.com and then checking out a few other professional sites, as well. I saved $190.90 in the month of January by clipping coupons, using my Kroger Card, and earning ECBs at CVS. It is time consuming, but I've found that it really has become my hobby, so I don't mind spending the time and it's saving our family money to spend on other thing's we'd like.

Not only am I "couponing," but I've also joined SwagBucks and Ebates. I'm hoping to cash in on some great Christmas deals in an attempt to cut our Christmas spending next December.

I'm going to try to post a little more regularly - either great deals or just my weekly savings.

Still....waiting.

So I was going to try to keep up with blogging and thoughts going on in my head a little more regularly, I've run into a bit of a computer problem - only adding to this idea of waiting.

Last Friday, our computer contracted what appears to be the latest malware attack. Currently there is no program fix, so I am trying to back up anything I need from safe mode and return it to a wonderful technician to reimage it. It's been a week and I am still waiting on my computer to be back to normal. It's not really anyone's fault that it is going to take so long, just wrong timing. For the time being, I'm relying on a laptop. Definitely not my favorite.

As for the big news in our lives, we are still waiting in a sense. Tim was officially notified that he is moving to the high school as an assistant principal, but he doesn't know much more than that. Hopefully tonight we will know a little more.

After I posted the last blog, I began to really think about how many of us are always in a state of waiting. My friend April is waiting for a baby to be born ANY time now. My friend Michelle is waiting on her house to be finished and the arrival of TWO babies. My friend Lacy is waiting on a job. Several from our church are waiting on adoption cases. Abby is anxiously, notice I didn't say patiently, waiting on her birthday to arrive next week. I think we are all waiting for something.

But what about God. Is He waiting too? Is He waiting on us to obey whatever it is He is calling us to do? Is He anxiously waiting on our arrival?

WAITING

I've been contemplating this idea of waiting for over a month now and am really beginning to wrap my brain around some thoughts.

Waiting is not something our human nature deals with. In this day of instant gratification having to wait or be patient is frustrating. After a month of waiting on a clear answer, the frustration becomes anger and disillusionment. Especially when it appears to be waiting on another human being. Just get on with it.

However, I was reminded in the night to "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him" (Psalm 37:7). Tim and I have been praying fervently for this situation to come to some sort of decision or confirmation that there would not be a decision, but I can't say that I've waited patiently or that I really waited patiently for the Lord. I was waiting on a man to resolve/clarify/whatever....

I know that God will answer in His own time. I know this. But, I wasn't claiming that in this situation. I am now. I can't say that there won't be times that I find myself getting frustrated or angry, but I know the truth. And, I know that God sees the BIG picture and I don't.

Waiting is never easy. But, it's a part of life. Why else do we have waiting rooms?
